Lightweight Composite Decking for Custom Drone Rigs
Cut weight, Reduce water damage, Build cleaner, stronger trailer decks without relying on wood, steel, or aluminum.
4×8 panels available with no minimum order. Buy one sheet or as many as you need.
Built for Builders Who Need Less Weight and More Durability
Quantum Drone Systems developed this composite decking system for our own trailer and rig builds.
We needed a lighter, waterproof alternative to wood that could handle field use, equipment traffic, weather, and the demands of drone operations without adding unnecessary weight.
Now we’re making it available a la carte for operators, dealers, fabricators, and builders putting together their own trailers, upper decks, service rigs, and field support systems.
Why Use Composite Decking?
Wood works until it doesn’t.
It absorbs water.
It adds weight.
It can swell, rot, splinter, or break down over time.
It can also create headaches on upper deck builds where durability, weight, and long-term reliability matter.
This composite decking gives you a cleaner, lighter, field-ready option for trailer decks, upper platforms, drone transport areas, and custom support rigs.
Key Benefits
Lightweight: Each 4×8 sheet weighs approximately 30 lbs, helping reduce overall trailer weight without giving up strength where it matters.
Strong Under Load: Rated up to 500 lbs per square foot, making it suitable for trailer decking, work platforms, upper deck areas, and equipment staging.
Waterproof Alternative to Wood: Designed to avoid the common problems of wood decking, including water absorption, swelling, rot, and long-term deterioration.
More Practical Than Steel or Aluminum: For many builds, this panel gives you the strength and stiffness you need without the weight, fabrication demands, or cost of traditional metal decking.
Clean Finished Surface: White top surface, black bottom surface, and a finished panel design that gives custom rigs a professional look.
No Minimum Order; Order one sheet for a small project or multiple sheets for a larger build.
Panel Strength
Composite panel strength works much like an I-beam.
The core acts as the vertical support, while the outer facings act as the top and bottom flanges. These layers work together to create high shear strength and structural stability.
As with an I-beam, increasing the distance between the outer layers, by using a thicker core, helps increase overall strength and stiffness.
Strength features include:
- High-strength outer layers that help reduce the risk of tensile failure
- A multi-cell core structure that helps resist buckling under load
- Smaller internal cell geometry that improves resistance to crush and peel failures
- Core orientation and density that contribute to improved shear performance
Stiffer and Lighter Than Solid Sheet Material
This composite panel design allows builders to achieve higher stiffness while using less material and reducing overall weight.
Compared to a solid sheet, stiffness increases dramatically without a proportional increase in weight. The internal core structure provides strength and rigidity while keeping the panel lightweight and efficient for real-world field applications.

Built for Real Field Setups
This isn’t just a decorative panel or shop material.
It’s a practical decking solution for operators who need strength, low weight, water resistance, and a cleaner way to build working trailers and rigs.
QDS uses this system in our own builds, and we’re now making it available to others who want the same advantage.
